Most folks escape the DC area for the holiday, but with it being dab smack in the middle of the week, that isn't an option this year. With nothing else to do but sit around watching the grass grow and the mosquitoes breed, we've decided to host a one-day gaming, jewelry, and movie extravaganza. So come, play games, watch movies, make jewelry (or just see how someone else does it), relax and enjoy yourselves!
Feel free to show up anytime after Noon, and stay as long as you like.

Tonight we looked at (but didn't play) Tigris and Euphrates, and played a couple of rounds of Fluxx.

Tigris And Euphrates looks like an interesting strategy game, but by the time we had gone through the rules and familiarized ourselves with the board and game elements, we decided that we wouldn't be able to get through a game in a reasonable amount of time.

Attendees: Craig Trader and Carrie Hafer, and Rachel and Jim “Blaise” Trigg.

Tonight we played a 4-player game of Ticket to Ride: USA 1910, using the Big Cities variant, and a 6-player game of Power Grid using the USA map.

  • Blaise won Ticket to Ride, followed closely by Sallie and Fuzz, with Craig trailing.
  • Dave won Power Grid, having exhausted the rest of us.

Note to self: In the future, do NOT start 6-player games of Power Grid at 10:00pm -- the game was hard fought and brutal.

Attendees: Craig Trader and Carrie Hafer, Rachel and Jim “Blaise” Trigg, Sallie, Dave and Tony Montuori, Dana Leader, and John McMahon.

Tonight we played a 5-player game of Mutiny!, and a 2-player game of Power Grid on the Central European map.

  • Blaise won Mutiny!
  • Craig won Power Grid.

This was the first time for us playing Mutiny!; it took a while to get the hang of it, then it got bloody. After everyone else went home, Dave and Craig played a hard-fought game of Power Grid, but beyond a certain point, the end result was inevitable -- Dave could have forced an additional turn, but it wouldn't have mattered.

Attendees: Craig Trader and Carrie Hafer, Sallie, Dave and Tony Montuori, Rachel and Jim "Blaise" Trigg.

Tonight we played a quick game of Early American Chrononauts, and a 5-player game of Power Grid with the Central Europe map.

  • Dana won Early American Chrononauts.
  • Craig won Power Grid, with Dave and Dana more-or-less tied for 2nd/3rd, followed by Tony and Fuzz.

This was our first time playing the Central Europe map -- it was a complex game because we had randomly picked Slovakia as the missing province, which seriously crimped everyone's plans. Plant distribution was very weird -- all of the good (ie: mid-to-expensive) plants came out early, but we didn't get to Step 3. Coal was cheap and plentiful (expected); surprisingly, so was Uranium -- at one point Uranium was the cheapest resource, even with two players grabbing it. Trash quickly became the most expensive resource.

Attendees: Craig Trader and Carrie Hafer, Sallie, Dave and Tony Montuori, Dana Leader, and John McMahon.

I thought that it might be nice to have a place to discuss Ludus, and I've been doing more with WordPress, so here we are. Let me know what you think. You'll need to have an account, but I've configured this blog to respond to OpenID, so if you have a LiveJournal account, you're all set.

If you do come in from LiveJournal, please edit your local profile and set your email and a name or nickname. If you do that, then your posts will be tagged by name instead of 'http://ljname.livejournal.com/'.
